Overview

The Stars, My Destination assembles a group of artists whose works reconceptualize cosmology—not as a distant, abstract notion, but as an intimate and mutable system of meaning shaped by personal history, material inquiry, and spiritual exploration. In this exhibition, cosmology functions as a dynamic process of becoming, an ever-evolving framework through which artists reinterpret the world and, in many cases, build it anew.

Michael David's mirror-laden vanitas compositions evoke the classical tradition, exploring the fragility of existence and the transient nature of self-perception. His works are not just about the reflection of the self; they are portals into the ways we confront, deny, or obsess over our impermanence. In contrast, Yulia Pinkusevich channels her heritage to summon elemental forces—fire, water, air—transforming these primal energies into vast, abstracted landscapes that speak to creation and destruction as two sides of the same coin, a cycle perpetually in motion.

Fahamu Pecou, working at the intersection of fine art and hip-hop, constructs a visual language where Black masculinity is both reimagined and reclaimed. His works are cosmological in the way they position identity as a vast terrain—where the past, present, and future collide in an ongoing process of redefinition. In Pecou’s universe, survival itself becomes an act of celestial resistance.
The artists in The Stars, My Destination do not offer simple answers or neatly packaged worlds. Instead, their works challenge us to look harder, to question the boundaries of what we see, and to confront the infinite possibilities of worlds we do not yet understand. Their cosmologies are not fixed—they are boundless, always shifting, always becoming.
